| | | | Look: the Sea has a peculiar influence On me. So many these creatures of the deep!
 It would be worth chasing them on the high seas;
 It would be worth seeing them leaping through the waves.

 The Sea, that world men don't inhabit,
 Is immense, so beautiful, so perfect!
 The sea has a peculiar influence
 On me. I would like to see the waves:
 It would be worth watching them running
 Madly; it would be worth
 Seeing which would first enter the bay.

 Ah! the vast Sea, and yet it speaks to us
 Yes, it speaks to us within,
 And we understand its language:
 It is a language that can be understood.

 (Ah!, what impression the Sea makes upon us!)
